Does it really work to do coaching over the phone?

While coaching can be done in face to face meetings, it is often done over the telephone. People who’ve had the experience of face to face therapy often wonder how coaching over the telephone can work. The answer is, surprisingly well! It’s obviously convenient – there’s no need to take off work and drive across town for an appointment. It’s also confidential - no need to worry about running into someone you know in the waiting room.

But the process itself has some distinct advantages.

  • Telephone coaching calls tend to be more focused, fostering a more laser-like approach when digging in.
  • They also tend to be more productive, in that there are no visual distractions from you and your life.
  • And they are typically more open, because people find it easier to be honest and vulnerable in conversations without face to face contact, especially if they have to talk about a slip or some other painful experience.
