Whereas support groups emphasize control of sexual acting out behaviors, our counseling groups focus on the underlying spiritual and emotional issues that contribute to sex addiction.  Unlike support groups, these groups are led by a counselor who will control the interaction of the group.  A counselor will often encourage group members to share their own issues for feedback from other members.  A counselor may also use various therapeutic techniques to facilitate individual healing.  These techniques would be done in front of the whole group as opposed to an individual counseling session.  It is often the case that the whole group learns from the work one member does.

At our center, counseling groups meet weekly for two hours.  We have groups for men struggling with sexual sobriety and for wives or women who are in relationship with a struggling man.  The cost per group session is $55.  Groups are open-ended in that a person can join at any time and may “graduate” from the group when they have reached certain therapeutic goals or feel ready to leave.  Often attendance at these groups may last for a year or more.  Group participation begins by scheduling individual appointments to begin the counseling relationship.  History, assessment of needs and appropriate placement in groups is discussed.  Men are required to meet with Mark Laaser before joining a group and women are required to meet with Debbie Laaser before joining a woman’s group.

All groups require confidentiality to create safety for those involved.
