Workshops for Couples
The Couple’s Intensive Workshop is for couples who have experienced sexual betrayal and/or simply struggling to experience genuine relational intimacy. The Intensive offers teaching from the perspective of Mark and Debbie Laaser’s new book The Seven Desires of Every Heart, and applies those insights to all areas of couple relationship — especially to recovery from sexual betrayal and co-dependence.
This workshop will be limited to 10 couples and will be facilitated by Mark and Debbie Laaser and another support couple when needed. The dramatic strength of this workshop is that it is led by the Laasers and other couples, all of whom have experienced the journey of healing from sexual betrayal. We believe in couples helping couples.
Who Should Attend This Workshop?
Some couples who come will be facing the crisis of the new discovery of sexual betrayal. Others will be “stuck” in their process of healing. Some couples will come because they are looking to build new levels of intimacy in their relationship.
If sexual addiction/compulsivity or sexual acting out (including viewing pornography) is a struggle for the husband, we highly recommend that he first come to our men’s workshop. This insures that he will be well aware of his responsibility for being sober or pure. It is recommended that the husband have at least 30 days of sobriety prior to attending the couple’s workshop. It is also helpful if the wife has had some support, whether it be in counseling or as part of a support group. If the husband has not come to a men’s workshop, a couple may still attend if the husband participates in a face-to-face or phone interview with Dr. Laaser.
What Can I Hope To Gain?
Couples who attend this workshop will experience that they are not alone in this journey. We create safety by allowing couples to work on and talk about only those issues that they feel comfortable sharing. The fellowship created by this group experience is powerful. In the context of this fellowship, couples will gain new insights about their relationship and new friendships, as well. Most of all they will learn new ways to have deeper and healthy intimacy. A great deal of time will be spent acquiring new skills and practicing new ways of relating. Our desire is that couples will leave with a new commitment and hope.
