Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any prerequisites? There really aren’t any. Some men benefit from reading Dr. Laaser’s book Healing the Wounds of Sexual Addiction as it will give a background on some of the material you will be taught.
What is the success rate? This varies depending on how hard a man works on his after care plan. For those who do continue to find counseling and attend groups, we how found over the last 20 years that our success rate is above 80%. Success means that a man will be free of his acting out behaviors and will be “sober.” We define sobriety as ”no sex with self or others outside of your marriage.”
What plans are addressed for after care? We spend a considerable amount of time on the last day of the workshop addressing this issue and helping participants create a plan for after care. For those who are local to our center this may mean participation in our ongoing therapy, individually and group. For those local who are married, it may also mean getting marriage counseling. For those who are not local we will be more than eager to communicate with any local therapists and groups that the men participate in. Finally, Mark Brouwer, of our staff has created a “90 Days to Sexual Sanity” program that consists of online groups, daily readings, and weekly coaching. This is particularly helpful to non-local men.
What should I wear? Please feel free to wear what is most comfortable. Most men come dressed in jeans or “business casual.”
What should I bring? There is nothing special for you to bring except a pen and notebook if you wish. You will be provided with a workbook when you arrive the first day. If you have special food needs, the Center does have a refrigerator for you to bring your own food.
How are meals handled? Meals are at your own expense. The men usually car pool to local restaurants for lunch and dinner. You can also bring a bag lunch and eat meals at our center if you prefer.
